Buena Park: A History

Buena Park was originally settled by German and Swedish farmers in the 1840s. In the 1860s, the picturesque then-suburban area attracted a number of wealthy Chicagoans. One property, the “Buena Estate”, became the neighborhood’s namesake. When Robert Waller sub-divided his property and developed it for less affluent Chicagoans, the population began to grow. Buena Park, with all of Lake View County, became part of Chicago in 1889.
